SUMMER AT LAST!

 

Summer is fast approaching and it’s time to start getting your pool ready to take that big dive. If you’ve let the pool go over winter and are wondering how on earth you’re going to get it swimmable, don’t worry – we’re here to help.  You can simply take a sample of the pool water (about half a litre) and bring it in to our shop at 27 Vialou Street and we will assess it for free and give you a comprehensive analysis, explain how the pool chemistry works and walk you through what you need to do. Alternatively we can send one of our highly qualified technicians to your property to get it up and running for you.

 Many pool owners think that it’s OK to just dose the pool with chlorine on a regular basis. It is very important to bear in mind that if the water is not well balanced, the sanitiser will not work as well as you might want. Generally when pool water is green the pH of the water is too high for the chlorine to clear it up adequately. Testing the water will dictate if and how much acid is required to reduce the pH to an acceptable level. Similarly, if you cannot see the bottom of the pool, a flocculent needs to be added to the water to coagulate the dirt particles and drop them out of suspension. The pool water needs to be circulated, without passing through the filter, and the flocculated particles left to settle. Once all the debris has settled on the base of the pool, it can be gradually vacuumed to waste. Once the pool is looking good the water needs to be re-balanced and pool stabilizer added. This prevents the intense summer heat from burning the chlorine out of the water.

If the media in the filter is getting on in years, the filtration will not be at optimum performance and in fact the filter may be harboring bacteria. In order to ensure that your pool is healthy, we recommend that filter media be replaced every five years.
